COMPETITION RULES 2011/12

Entrants can only submit work that has not been placed in previous Tenby CC competitions.

There will be SEVEN (7) competitions:
THREE (3) being ‘Open’ (with up to two prints and/or projected images per entry).
ONE (1) being ‘Natural History’ (with up to two prints and/or projected images per entry).
ONE (1) being ‘Creative’ (with up to two prints and/or projected images per entry).
ONE (1) being a ‘Panels’ competition consisting of Five (5) prints on a linked Theme or 5 digital images also on a linked theme ( a 6th image to be supplied which containes all the other 5 arranged as the intended panel)..


ONE (1) being ‘AV  which will be run as a mini-comp and judged 'in house' by all members present.

The AV Show to be presented on CD and saved as an exe. File of no more than four (4) minutes duration and playable on the Club’s PC.  Photo Harmony is defined as a show of slides set to music whereas an AV show has as previous plus an additional commentary. Until PAGB and/or WPF finalise the rules, Photo Harmony or an AV entry will be accepted.

Only ‘Natural History’ competitions will be subjected to ‘Photo Reality’ rules

Photo Reality’ is defined as having minimal manipulation by computer.  No editing of part of an image is allowed.  Contrast & brightness, colour balance, minimal sharpening, ‘Levels’ in RGB mode, plus dodging and burning adjustments are allowed and applies to Prints and Projected Images.  The judge will be asked to look for and comment on excessive manipulation.

Monochrome (FIAP definitions)

A black and white work fitting from the very dark grey (black) to the very clear grey white) is a monochrome work with the various shades of grey. A black and white work toned entirely in a single colour will remain a monochrome work able to stand in the black and white category; such a work can be reproduced in black and white in the catalogue of a salon under FIAP. Patronage. On the other hand a black and white work modified by a partial toning or by the addition of one colour becomes a colour work (polychrome) to stand in the colour category; such a work requires colour reproduction in the catalogue of a salon under FIAP Patronage.

‘NATURAL HISTORY’ DEFINITIONS; (TAKEN FROM WPF RULES)

Nature photography
depicts living, untamed animals and uncultivated plants in a natural habitat, geology and the wide diversity of natural phenomena, from insects to icebergs.

Photographs of animals, which are domesticated, caged or under any form of restraint, as well as photographs of cultivated plants are ineligible. Minimal evidence of humans is acceptable for nature subjects, such as Barn Owls or Storks, adapting to an environment modified by humans, or natural forces, like hurricanes or tidal waves, reclaiming it. The original image, must have been taken by the photographer, whatever photographic medium is used. Any manipulation or modification to the original image is limited to minor retouching of blemishes and must not alter the content of the original scene. After satisfying the above requirements, every effort should be made to use the highest level of photographic skill in all nature photographs.

Authentic Wildlife
is defined as one or more organisms living free and unrestrained in a natural or adopted habitat. Prints and slides may be either home or trade processed, and the entrant must hold the copyright of the whole image.

ALL prints to be mounted by the Member.  Size of mounts to be a max. 500mm x 400mm

Each Print to be identified with Members No., and Print Title.

PROJECTED IMAGES to be:

Digitally Produced on CD as a flattened JPEG
1400 pixels wide Landscape format height in proportion. (if your image is Landscape set 1400 & leave height to resize in proportion)
1050 pixels high Portrait format width in proportion. (if you image is Portrait set max of 1050 height & leave width to resize in proportion)
Resolution of 72 p.p.i. 
Each digital image must be identified by Members No. & Title of the image saved as the file name.

e.g.(No. - file name of image)      23  Sunset.jpg

Image titles on the entry form to be the same as recorded in the filename of CDs & printed on the back of prints.

Instructions on how to resize images are on the web site/information leaflet.

Competitions are held for paid up Members only, who hold copyright of the work and display their membership number. 

Members can compete for the following Trophies:



Photographer of the Year.............. Member with highest total score accumulated from 3 'Open' competitions throughout the season.

Print of the Year ........................... Selected from 1st,2nd,3rd placed prints in all competitions (excluding ‘Panels’).

Projected Image of the Year......... Selected from 1st,2nd,3rd placed images in all competitions (excluding ‘AV’)

Best panel of Prints....................... Selected from that specific Competition

Best AV show................................ Selected from an Open AV Competition

Merit Trophy................................. Awarded to the member with the highest points total at the end of the year (from points awarded in all competitions),this member NOT to have gained a 1st, 2nd or 3rd in previous years or in the current year.

The winner of this trophy will then not be eligible the following year, as the member will be deemed to have achieved a 1st placing by winning the award.

Best Natural History...................... Selected from the 1st placed print & projected image in that specific Competition

Best Creative.................................. Selected from the 1st placed print & projected image in that specific Competition

 

The Trophies will be presented at the Club’s Annual Dinner.
